Colorado
Employee Obligations (Which Returns YOU Must File)
If you physically work in Colorado, file a nonresident Colorado return (tax rate: Flat 4.4%). Then file your Ohio return and claim the Ohio IT 1040 Schedule of Credits credit so you don't get taxed twice on the same income.
Employer Obligations (What Your Employer Must Withhold & Remit)
Register for withholding, unemployment, and FAMLI from day 1. Must withhold the employee FAMLI share. Unemployment applies to the first $30,600. FAMLI employer contribution is 0.44% on wages up to $184,500. Effective January 1, 2026, FAMLI benefit payments are subject to FICA and FUTA for employers with 10 or more employees; FAMLI handles employee-side FICA withholding on benefit payments.
City & Local Income Taxes (Extra Filings Beyond the State Return)
Denver charges a flat $5.75/month Occupational Privilege Tax (not a percentage). Greenwood Village $2/month, Sheridan $3/month, Glendale $5/month. Aurora eliminated its tax in January 2025.
Other Paycheck Deductions (Disability, Paid Leave, Unemployment)
FAMLI 0.44% on wages up to $184,500.
