- Usage data: Login timestamps, pages viewed, features accessed, and general interaction patterns with the platform.
- Cookies: Session cookies used to maintain your authenticated state on the web platform. See Section 5 for details.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Authenticate your identity and provide secure access to the platform.
- Personalize your experience by displaying data relevant to your home state.
- Process billing and manage subscription seat allocations for your company.
- Send transactional emails such as magic link sign-in messages.
- Improve the platform through aggregated, anonymized usage analytics.
- Communicate important updates about the service or your account.
3. Information Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We share data only with the following service providers, solely to operate the platform:
- Vercel— Application hosting (United States servers).
- Supabase— Database hosting (PostgreSQL).
- Resend— Transactional email delivery (magic link emails).
- Google— OAuth authentication, if you choose to sign in with Google.
We may also disclose information if required by law, regulation, or legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of OurUnitedStats, our users, or the public.
4. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including:
- All data transmitted between your browser and our servers is encrypted using TLS (HTTPS).
- Authentication tokens are stored securely and expire after a defined period.
- On mobile devices, tokens are stored using platform-native secure storage with biometric protection where available.
- Database access is restricted and protected by role-based access controls.
No method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Cookies and Tracking
OurUnitedStats uses cookies strictly for functional purposes:
- Session cookies: Used to maintain your authenticated session on the web platform. These are essential for the service to function.
- JWT tokens: Used for authentication on the mobile application, stored securely on your device.
- Freemium preview cookie (
__fm):When you browse our interactive maps without an account, we store a short-lived, signed functional cookie recording which (topic, home state) combinations you have previewed. This cookie contains no personal information — only topic slugs and two-letter state abbreviations — and is used solely to count your free previews before prompting you to sign up. It expires after 30 days and is cleared automatically when you create an account or log in.
We do not use third-party tracking cookies. We do not serve advertisements. We do not use any third-party analytics or tracking scripts that follow you across other websites.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct any inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Delete your account and associated data.
- Export your data in a portable format.

7. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. If your account is closed (either by you or your company administrator), we will delete your personal data within 30 days of account closure. Aggregated, anonymized data that cannot identify you may be retained indefinitely for analytics purposes.
8. Children's Privacy
OurUnitedStats is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. 9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through a notice on the platform.
