Deadlines — Days to Register and Transfer License

When moving from Wyoming to Utah, you must register your vehicle within 60 days of establishing residency. You must also transfer your driver's license within 60 days. Plan to visit the Utah DMV promptly after your move.

What You'll Pay — Registration, Title, and Sales Tax

Registering your vehicle in Utah costs $44 + age-based fee. Title transfer fee is $6 (title transfer is required). Vehicle sales/use tax is 4.85% (plus local). Budget for these costs before your move.

Inspections — Safety, Emissions, or None

Utah requires both a safety inspection (Annual for vehicles 10+ years old) and emissions testing (Cache, Davis, Salt Lake, Utah, Weber counties). You will need to pass both before or shortly after registering your vehicle. This is one of the stricter states for vehicle inspections.

Insurance Minimums — Liability Coverage Required

Utah requires minimum liability insurance of 30/65/25 (bodily injury per person / per accident / property damage, in thousands). Your current Wyoming minimums are 25/50/20. You must update your insurance to meet Utah requirements before registering.

License Plates — Front, Rear, and Plate Transfer

Utah requires rear only plates (Wyoming requires front and rear). Surrender out-of-state plates; new UT plates issued. You will need to surrender your Wyoming plates and obtain new Utah plates.
