When moving from Minnesota to Iowa, you must register your vehicle within 30 days of establishing residency. You must also transfer your driver's license within 30 days. Plan to visit the Iowa DMV promptly after your move.

Registering your vehicle in Iowa costs $50 + weight fee. Title transfer fee is $25 (title transfer is required). Vehicle sales/use tax is 5%. Budget for these costs before your move.

Iowa requires minimum liability insurance of 20/40/15 (bodily injury per person / per accident / property damage, in thousands). Your current Minnesota minimums are 30/60/10. You must update your insurance to meet Iowa requirements before registering.

Iowa requires both front and rear plates (Minnesota requires front and rear). Surrender out-of-state plates; new IA plates issued. You will need to surrender your Minnesota plates and obtain new Iowa plates.
