When moving from Maine to Delaware, you must register your vehicle within 60 days of establishing residency. You must also transfer your driver's license within 60 days. Plan to visit the Delaware DMV promptly after your move.

Registering your vehicle in Delaware costs $40. Title transfer fee is $55 (title transfer is required). Vehicle sales/use tax is 4.25% doc fee (no sales tax). Budget for these costs before your move.

Delaware requires both a safety inspection (Biennial (new cars exempt 5 years)) and emissions testing (New Castle County biennial). You will need to pass both before or shortly after registering your vehicle. This is one of the stricter states for vehicle inspections.

Delaware requires minimum liability insurance of 25/50/10 (bodily injury per person / per accident / property damage, in thousands). Your current Maine minimums are 50/100/25. You must update your insurance to meet Delaware requirements before registering.

Delaware requires rear only plates (Maine requires front and rear). Surrender out-of-state plates; new DE plates issued. You will need to surrender your Maine plates and obtain new Delaware plates.
