Weight Limits
Maine interstate GVW limit: 80,000 lbs. State highways allow up to 100,000 lbs with proper axle configuration. Per-axle limits: Single axle 22,400 lbs, Tandem axle 34,000 lbs, Tridem axle 42,000 lbs. Federal bridge formula on interstates; Maine allows higher GVW on state roads with additional axles. Enforcement tolerance: No general tolerance during spring restrictions.

Oversize/Overweight Permits
Oversize/overweight permits through MaineDOT online system Fees: Single-trip: $20; Annual: $100. Pennsylvania oversize permits are not directly honored in Maine. You will need to obtain a Maine-specific permit for oversize/overweight loads. Apply online: https://www.maine.gov/mdot/csd/oversizeoverweight/ Enforcement: State Police and MaineDOT enforcement; weigh stations on major routes.
Exemptions
Agricultural: Farm vehicles exempt on state highways when within 25 miles of farm. Timber/Forestry: Timber trucks allowed up to 100,000 lbs on designated haul roads.
Seasonal Restrictions
Spring weight restrictions (posted roads) from March through May; reduced weights during thaw season. Check with the state DOT for current postings and dates before planning your route.
