Per-axle limits: Single axle 20,000 lbs, Tandem axle 34,000 lbs, Tridem axle 42,000 lbs. Federal bridge formula on interstates; Louisiana allows higher state highway GVW with proper axle spacing. Enforcement tolerance: Limited tolerance on non-interstate highways.
Size Limits
Height: 13 ft 6 in. Width: 8 ft 6 in. Trailer length: 59 ft 6 in (semitrailer). Overall combination length: No overall limit for tractor-semitrailer.
Oversize/Overweight Permits
Oversize/overweight permits through LaGeaux online system; annual permits require approved routes Fees: Single-trip: $20; Annual: $100+. New Mexico oversize permits are not directly honored in Louisiana. You will need to obtain a Louisiana-specific permit for oversize/overweight loads. Exemptions
Agricultural: Agricultural products exempt on state highways up to 88,000 lbs; sugarcane haulers have special provisions. Timber/Forestry: Timber vehicles allowed up to 86,600 lbs on designated state routes.
