Size Limits
Height: 13 ft 6 in. Width: 8 ft 6 in. Trailer length: 53 ft (semitrailer). Overall combination length: No overall limit for tractor-semitrailer on National Network.
Oversize/Overweight Permits
Oversize/overweight permits through PennDOT online system Fees: Single-trip: $25+; Annual: $100+. Montana oversize permits are not directly honored in Pennsylvania. You will need to obtain a Pennsylvania-specific permit for oversize/overweight loads. Apply online: https://www.penndot.pa.gov/Doing-Business/Motor-Carriers/Pages/default.aspx Enforcement: PSP and PennDOT enforcement; aging infrastructure means strict weight enforcement; high fines.
Exemptions
Agricultural: Agricultural vehicles exempt on state highways; farm equipment has special width and weight provisions. Timber/Forestry: Timber trucks allowed higher weights on designated state routes.
Seasonal Restrictions
Spring thaw restrictions on posted roads; reduced weights during thaw season (February-April). Check with the state DOT for current postings and dates before planning your route.
