Hawaii interstate GVW limit: 80,000 lbs. Per-axle limits: Single axle 22,500 lbs, Tandem axle 34,000 lbs, Tridem axle 42,000 lbs. Federal bridge formula applies; many bridges have posted lower limits. Enforcement tolerance: Limited tolerance due to older infrastructure.
Size Limits
Height: 14 ft. Width: 9 ft. Trailer length: 53 ft (semitrailer on designated routes). Overall combination length: 65 ft combination.
Oversize/Overweight Permits
Special permits for oversize/overweight loads through HDOT Highways Division Fees: Single-trip: $25; varies by island and route. Mississippi oversize permits are not directly honored in Hawaii. You will need to obtain a Hawaii-specific permit for oversize/overweight loads. Apply online: https://hidot.hawaii.gov/highways/ Enforcement: Enforcement on limited highway network; portable scales used.
Exemptions
Agricultural: Agricultural vehicles exempt on plantation roads and local routes.
