IFTA Fuel Tax
The IFTA diesel fuel tax rate in Florida is 41.0¢ per gallon, which is 16.5¢ higher than your home state (Colorado: 24.5¢/gal). Includes state and local option taxes; above-average rate. This rate is reported on your quarterly IFTA return and net taxes owed or credited are calculated based on miles driven vs. fuel purchased in each jurisdiction.
Registration & Permits
Florida participates in IRP; registration through FLHSMV. No separate state motor carrier permit required; UCR registration required for interstate carriers. Your IRP registration covers operating in Florida as long as it is listed on your cab card. If Florida is not on your cab card, you will need a temporary trip permit: $45 for 10-day temporary tag; available at county tax collector offices.

Permits required for loads over 8.5 ft wide, 13.5 ft high, 75 ft long, or 80,000 lbs; summer restrictions during hurricane season for extreme loads. Always obtain permits before entering the state with oversize or overweight loads, as fines for operating without proper permits can be substantial.
Hazmat Requirements
Federal hazmat requirements; Florida Highway Patrol enforces routing; specific restrictions through Miami tunnels and key bridges. All drivers transporting hazardous materials must have a valid CDL with hazmat endorsement (HME), which requires a TSA background check. Check Florida's specific routing requirements before hauling hazmat loads through the state.
Weigh Stations & Bypass
Numerous weigh stations and agricultural inspection stations throughout the state; major stations on I-75, I-95, I-10, I-4. Bypass programs available: PrePass, Drivewyze; Florida agricultural bypass for inspected carriers. Carriers with good safety records and proper credentials may qualify for bypass at equipped stations, saving time and fuel.
