Illinois participates in IRP; registration through Illinois Secretary of State. Illinois Commerce Commission authority required for intrastate for-hire carriers. Your IRP registration covers operating in Illinois as long as it is listed on your cab card. Always obtain permits before entering the state with oversize or overweight loads, as fines for operating without proper permits can be substantial.

Federal hazmat requirements; Illinois-specific routing through Chicago metro area; restrictions on certain tunnels and bridges. All drivers transporting hazardous materials must have a valid CDL with hazmat endorsement (HME), which requires a TSA background check.
