IFTA Fuel Tax
The IFTA diesel fuel tax rate in New Hampshire is 22.2¢ per gallon, which is 8.8¢ lower than your home state (Alabama: 31.0¢/gal). Includes road toll (excise tax). This rate is reported on your quarterly IFTA return and net taxes owed or credited are calculated based on miles driven vs. fuel purchased in each jurisdiction.
Registration & Permits
New Hampshire participates in IRP; registration through NH DMV. No separate state motor carrier permit; UCR registration required. Your IRP registration covers operating in New Hampshire as long as it is listed on your cab card. If New Hampshire is not on your cab card, you will need a temporary trip permit: $25 for temporary trip permit.
Toll Roads
Toll facilities in New Hampshire: NH Turnpike system: Spaulding Turnpike, Everett Turnpike, Blue Star Turnpike (I-95). Turnpike truck tolls: $2-$8 per plaza depending on axles; E-ZPass accepted; cash lanes available.

Hazmat Requirements
Federal hazmat requirements; restrictions through Franconia Notch on I-93; limited routing options in mountainous areas. All drivers transporting hazardous materials must have a valid CDL with hazmat endorsement (HME), which requires a TSA background check. Check New Hampshire's specific routing requirements before hauling hazmat loads through the state.
Weigh Stations & Bypass
Weigh stations on I-93, I-95; portable enforcement units. Bypass programs available: PrePass, Drivewyze. Carriers with good safety records and proper credentials may qualify for bypass at equipped stations, saving time and fuel.
