This rate is reported on your quarterly IFTA return and net taxes owed or credited are calculated based on miles driven vs. fuel purchased in each jurisdiction.

Registration & Permits

Wyoming participates in IRP; registration through WYDOT. No separate state motor carrier permit; UCR registration required. Your IRP registration covers operating in Wyoming as long as it is listed on your cab card. If Wyoming is not on your cab card, you will need a temporary trip permit: $25 for temporary trip permit; available at ports of entry.

Oversize/Overweight Permits

Single-trip permit: $25; annual permit: $75; WYDOT permits. Permits required for loads over 8.5 ft wide, 14 ft high, 81 ft single, 80,000 lbs on interstate; higher weights on some state routes; wind restrictions for high-profile loads. Always obtain permits before entering the state with oversize or overweight loads, as fines for operating without proper permits can be substantial.

Hazmat Requirements

Federal hazmat requirements apply; some restrictions in Yellowstone/Grand Teton National Park areas. All drivers transporting hazardous materials must have a valid CDL with hazmat endorsement (HME), which requires a TSA background check. Check Wyoming's specific routing requirements before hauling hazmat loads through the state.

Weigh Stations & Bypass

Ports of entry on I-80, I-25, I-90; mandatory stop unless bypass; high-wind closures affect port operations. Bypass programs available: PrePass, Drivewyze; Wyoming port of entry bypass. Carriers with good safety records and proper credentials may qualify for bypass at equipped stations, saving time and fuel.
