Nevada
License Portability Summary
Nevada has a universal license recognition law. As a New York-licensed professional, your license is generally recognized in Nevada, subject to meeting basic eligibility requirements. This is the strongest form of license portability available. Early universal recognition adopter (2017); moderate compact membership.
Interstate Compact Memberships
Nevada is a member of 4 compacts: Nurse Licensure Compact, Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact, EMS Compact (REPLICA), Counseling Compact. None of these overlap with New York's compact memberships.
Nursing — Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)
Nevada is an NLC member, but New York is not. You would need to obtain a separate Nevada nursing license or establish residency in an NLC state to get a multistate license.
Teaching License Reciprocity
Teaching license portability from New York to Nevada: NASDTEC member; reciprocal certification with background check. Most states participate in the NASDTEC Interstate Agreement, but specific requirements vary by state and endorsement area.
Professional Engineer (PE) Comity
Nevada supports PE license comity through NCEES. Licensed Professional Engineers from New York can apply for licensure by comity, which is a streamlined process using your NCEES Record. This typically requires verifying your education, exam passage, and experience meet Nevada's requirements.
Military Spouse License Portability
Universal recognition covers military spouses; temporary license within 15 days. Under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA), updated December 2024, all states are now required to recognize valid professional licenses from other states for military personnel and their spouses.
Recent Legislative Changes
