Hawaii does not share any interstate compacts with New Jersey. A full separate licensing process will be required for most professions. Hawaii's general portability rating is "difficult." Not a member of any major interstate compact; island state with unique requirements.

Hawaii is not a member of any major interstate licensing compacts. All professions will require traditional state-by-state licensing.

New Jersey is an NLC member, but Hawaii is not. Your multistate NLC license does not cover practice in Hawaii. You will need to apply for a separate Hawaii nursing license.

Teaching license portability from New Jersey to Hawaii: NASDTEC member; requires additional Hawaii-specific coursework. Most states participate in the NASDTEC Interstate Agreement, but specific requirements vary by state and endorsement area.

Hawaii supports PE license comity through NCEES. Licensed Professional Engineers from New Jersey can apply for licensure by comity, which is a streamlined process using your NCEES Record. This typically requires verifying your education, exam passage, and experience meet Hawaii's requirements.

Temporary permit for military spouses; valid up to 1 year. Under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA), updated December 2024, all states are now required to recognize valid professional licenses from other states for military personnel and their spouses.
