EV Purchase Rebate & Tax Credits
Texas has NO meaningful state-level EV purchase incentives as of April 2026. No state rebate, tax credit, or sales tax exemption for EVs exists. Buyers rely entirely on the federal IRA credit (up to $7,500, subject to income and vehicle requirements). Check https://comptroller.texas.gov/ for any new legislation.
Home Charging Station Incentives
Oncor, CenterPoint Energy, and AEP Texas offer EV charger rebates and time-of-use rates through utility programs (not statewide). TXU Energy and others have EV plans.
Solar Tax Credit & Net Metering
Texas does not offer a state solar income tax credit. Net metering: No statewide net metering mandate in Texas. Retail electric providers may offer buyback programs at negotiated rates. ERCOT does not require net metering. Some co-ops offer limited net metering.
Additional State Programs
Texas has no state EV purchase rebate or tax credit. A Volkswagen settlement-funded Light Duty Motor Vehicle Purchase or Lease Incentive program expired in 2023 without renewal. EVs are subject to a higher annual registration fee ($200) compared to gasoline vehicles.
