New Mexico does NOT honor your Arkansas concealed carry permit. Carrying concealed in New Mexico with only your Arkansas permit would be illegal. Check if New Mexico offers non-resident permits.

Permit Rules — Age, Training, Fees

New Mexico permit type: Shall-Issue. Minimum age: 21. Training required: Yes. Non-resident permits are NOT available from New Mexico. Must be 21+, 15-hour training course with live fire, pass background check, no felony convictions

Where You Cannot Carry (Even With a Valid Permit)

In New Mexico, concealed carry is prohibited in the following locations: Schools, courthouses, on university premises (with exceptions), Indian reservations. Always check for posted signage and comply with all local restrictions. Federal gun-free zones (federal buildings, post offices, military installations) apply nationwide regardless of state permits.

Recent Law Changes to Know

7-day firearm waiting period struck down as unconstitutional by the 10th Circuit on August 19, 2025 (Ortega v. Grisham); en banc rehearing denied December 2025; preliminary injunction issued February 2026. Permit holders were already exempt from the waiting period.
